2020-2021 Class Descriptions

MUSICAL THEATRE

Let us prepare your "triple threat" for their stage debut!!  Musical Theatre is a high-energy "Broadway" style jazz and tap combination class.  The Tap portion of the class will concentrate on developing intricate patterns and rhythms, while the Jazz portion of class will begin to develop student's flexibility and balance skills.  During the season, students will experience dance, acting and vocal performance and will explore the amazing history of Broadway.

Class Dress Requirements, Performance Expectations and Showcase Performance Information can be found in the online registration system.

PRE-POINTE / POINTE

Pointe is the study of ballet while wearing blocked satin shoes that allow the dancer to raise the body onto the tips of the toes.  Dancers must also be currently studying ballet and have permission from the instructor.  Students are required to have proper spine alignment, ankle strength, proper foot-pointing technique, ability to hold turn-out from the hips, a well-elevated releve on demi pointe with straight knees, and correct distribution of body weight both on two legs and on one leg. Students also require the emotional maturity level necessary for hard work and commitment that pointe entails.

Pre-Pointe and Pointe will include exercises in demi pointe to strengthen calf muscles, ankles, and arches of the feet.  Exercises will begin at the barre for safety and stability. Students will progress to exercises in the centre to practice their balance and increase their strength.

Please contact 3DCA to discuss the appropriate placement for your dancer.

PAS DE DEUX (Partnering)

Must be enrolled in Ballet III or Boys Only Ballet to be considered for this class.  This class is an introduction to ballet partnering.  Pointe shoes are not necessary, but dancers who have enough experience on pointe are encouraged to take at least part of this class on pointe.
